Hungary’s space, defence, and aeronautics sectors are entering a decisive phase. These industries are no longer niche technology domains; they are becoming key drivers of economic competitiveness, security, and international positioning. To respond to this shift, the Hungarian Innovation Association (MISZ) has launched the Space, Defence & Aeronautics Innovation Working Group, a new platform designed to accelerate innovation, collaboration, and market impact across these strategic sectors.
The Working Group was created to bring together industry leaders, innovative SMEs, research institutes, universities, public stakeholders, and investors around a shared objective: strengthening Hungary’s role in European and global value chains through high-value, dual-use technologies.
A clear mission and long-term vision
The Working Group’s mission is to support innovation initiatives originating from Hungary in the space, defence, and aeronautics domains. This includes fostering research and development, encouraging investment, enabling cross-border partnerships, and representing sectoral interests in regulatory and innovation-policy discussions.
Its long-term vision is to contribute to the development of a more advanced, internationally competitive Hungarian innovation ecosystem within five years, where technology development, talent, capital, and users are better connected—and where successful innovations move faster from concept to deployment.
From discussion to execution
Unlike traditional forums, the Working Group is explicitly action-oriented. Its focus areas include:
strengthening the visibility of space, defence, and aeronautics innovation within national flagship programs,
connecting innovators with users, integrators, public buyers, and investors,
supporting education and talent development, especially in STEM fields,
promoting dual-use technologies with both civilian and security applications,
and helping Hungarian actors integrate into international value chains at higher added-value levels.
A growing professional coalition
The initiative builds on the broad membership and institutional reach of MISZ, while creating a dedicated space for coordination in these fast-growing sectors. The founding coalition already brings together major industrial players, universities, research centers, startups, and professional organizations—reflecting the belief that system-level cooperation is essential for global competitiveness.
An open platform
The Space, Defence & Aeronautics Innovation Working Group is an open, evolving platform. Organizations and professionals who are active in technology development, application, regulation, financing, or education in these fields are invited to engage, contribute, and shape the agenda.
The goal is simple but ambitious: to turn Hungary’s technological capabilities into sustained innovation leadership in space, defence, and aeronautics—through collaboration, execution, and strategic focus.
